There’s nothing like turning the pages of a new book , but for those who have embraced the electronic publishing days there’s good news from Amazon.com: Kindle is set to offer new applications for the electronic book reading brigade, which will be produced and priced by individual developers.
The Kindle Development Kit, which is still in beta testing, is already in use by a small group of developers who are fast at work working on new applications that will consist of games, productivity tools, and utility applications, all downloadable to your Kindle.
According to reports, there will be several models released for apps that range from free-of-charge to subscription and fee-based. The question remains: Will e-readers buy the apps?
The jury is still out on this one, but here’s our take: If the Kindle hopes to reclaim some of Apple’s market share by developing similar applications that are downloadable to the carry-all Kindle, the Apple iPod team might want to start planning their next big trick.
