Is “Frugal” the New “F” Word?

How frugal are you? At a time when a penny saved is worth more than the penny earned, how far are you willing to go to spend less and conserve more?

In a recent article by WWD Retail, the magazine examines how frugal today’s shoppers really are and whether or not the frugal trend will stay that way.

“Mindless excess is over. The entire consumer mentality has changed across the socioeconomic spectrum,” said Faith Popcorn, chief executive officer of marketing firm BrainReserve. “We understand and buy what we truly need, and we actually want less — stuff is clutter and we want simpler. We call it cashing out.”

Obviously at Swaptree, we agree. But, is this the dawn of a new shopping age or is this just an old habit that is coming back to reclaim its rightful place in our wallets?

The discussion wages on at all price levels and in all industries — from fashion to food to cars. But what about the swap? Would you give up buying something brand new if you knew you could get it used at 90% off the cost? Have the shopping rules changed to make way for the Swap Movement?

We want to know your thoughts: What would you, and wouldn’t you, swap for? Is “frugal” the new “f” word in your vocabulary?
