As the Halloween season draws near, we’re prepping for all things spooky and scary. That’s why we’re taken the time to create our top 10 favorite scary movies of all time list. These are the movies you watch in the dark, but have a little bit of light on just to feel a bit safer when you start to hear strange noises. These movies are guaranteed to scare you silly, so grab some popcorn and a couple friends (you don’t want to watch these alone) and get spooked with our top 10 Halloween movies:
- The Exorcist: The spider walk scene is quite possibly one of the creepiest moments in film history. Not as famous as the spinning head scene, it still makes our skin crawl every time we see it. This movie should be seen by anyone and everyone who is a fan of the horror genre.

- Psycho: The quintessential scary movie scene, the shower scene from Psycho though not as scary by today’s standards scared the life out of viewers when it first came out. If you haven’t seen Psycho, you aren’t a fan of horror movies.
- The Shining: “Here’s Johnny.” Jack Nicholson’s character in the Shining exudes crazy and this scene clearly does it justice. The Shining is another movie that true horror movie fans should never miss and should have in their collections.
- Silence of the Lambs: “It puts the lotion in the basket or else it gets the hose again.” Ominous words from a terrifying two- hour thrill ride of a movie. Another horror classic that all must see. Anthony Hopkins plays one of the most memorable horror characters in Hannibal Lecter, who helps Clarice Sperling (played by Jodie Foster) go into the mind of a serial killer to catch one.
- Seven: This intense psychological thriller starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, who play detectives hunting after an elusive murderer, who has plotted to kill 7 victims based upon the 7 deadly sins. Here’s Brad Pitt as he tries to capture our villain, aptly named John Doe (played by Kevin Spacey).
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: This is a horribly sadistic and gruesome film that isn’t for the faint of heart. It is ultra violent, but a movie that any true horror movie fan will tell you deserves high praise. This most terrifying factoid about this movie is that is actually based off a real-life murder named Ed Gein.- Friday the 13th: Jason Voorhees, along with Freddy Kruger are VIPs in the monster world. Jason will kill anyone and everyone that stands in his way. Here’s how he dispatches every one of his victims in this horrifying and gruesome movie.
- Dawn of the Dead: By far and away, the most famous Zombie movie ever released in theaters, it still scares the pants off of movie goers everywhere. This is a collection of the best scenes in the movie.
- Nightmare on Elm Street: A group of teenagers start having dreams about a scarred man with razor fingers and soon they are brutally murdered in their sleep. The remaining teen, Nancy, realizes that she has to stay awake to survive. Good luck going to bed after this one!
- Night of the Living Dead : This black-and-white film, which was remade in 1990, will disturb you to death. You’ll cross your fingers for the group of people who hide in a farmhouse, trying to avoid being killed by the dead who have come back to life. This scene takes place in a cemetery where we first encounter the walking undead in the movie.
