Swap.com Is Getting More Social

Swap.com's Facebook Page

Swap.com has made several exciting updates to its Facebook integration

We have all swapped things in our lives.

For me swapping started in the lunch room in first grade.  As I grew older, I continued to swap, trading cards, marbles, and sports equipment. Today, I trade tickets and toys for my kids.  Most of these swaps have come through friends and family since these are my closest connections.  It was not until I joined Swap.com that I swapped something with a stranger.  Swap.com created a trusted network so I felt almost as if it was a friend or family member.

Facebook Has Become the Social Hub of the World

It seems that every week I connect with someone who I have shared experiences with in the past and present.  The more you get into it the more you get back in return as well.  Facebook has really created a very deep social graph of people’s lives.

It’s natural for Swap.com to integrate with Facebook since we aim to enable the social connections that are so important to swapping.  I am pleased to let you know that this is exactly what we are doing.  We believe that it can really enhance the experience for our users and make it easier to expand network of friends who use Swap.com.

Our first Facebook integration simply allowed Facebook members to use their login credentials to log into Swap.com.  Many leading site like Pandora, Etsy, Yelp and others also allow for this.  It worked well for a small percentage of our base but we knew that we could do more.  I challenged our team on this.  Afterall, Facebook is the most important social graph…and Swap.com is the essence of social commerce.

Swap.com’s New Facebook Integration

We are now in the process of launching several updates to Swap.com’s Facebook integration.

  1. We have made Facebook more prominent on the site.
  2. We have updated the integration of the tools that allow users to use their Facebook credentials when logging into Swap.com.
  3. Just last Friday we started to suggest things that our users could add to their “have” and “want” lists based on information from their Facebook profiles and actions.
  4. We are also making it easier to invite your Facebook friends to join Swap.com.

The base premise here is that Swapping is Social.  We are working to create some significant benefits on Swap.com based on our members contributions to the social graph.  And all of this can happen automatically due to our integration with Facebook.  I hope you will like what we are doing and that our work can make swapping a little more social and personal for you.

We invite you to connect with us on Facebook and share your swapping experiences with us.
