What can a simple lunch trade teach us? According to Queen Rania of Jordan, swapping sandwiches can show us that “wonderful things can be found in the most unexpected places.”
In the clip below, Queen Rania joins ABC News to discuss her wonderfully-titled children’s book “The Sandwich Swap” and talk about the childhood experience upon which the story is based.
As a 5-year old at school, Rania engaged in some in a moment of “peanut butter diplomacy”, exchanging a bite of her hummus sandwich for a taste of a schoolmate’s peanut butter sandwich. According to Rania, overcoming her distrust of a strange culinary treat with the help of a friend opened her eyes to the power of experiencing new things and showed her the importance of not fearing the unknown.
Her aim for the book is to instill these same values in young readers.
