Swap of the Day: Can You Spare Some Time?

Time is MoneyTime is perhaps our most precious resource. So why not swap it? Give a little time, get a little time.

And that’s just what a group called the Emerald Valley Time Exchange has set out to do with their innovative approach to swapping. The community led time exchange serves the Eugene, Oregon area and it is a self-proclaimed, community based “time bank” swapping community members time as their form of currency.

The best part is, the premise is really as simple as it sounds. You volunteer a service or talent, such as teaching an hour-long yoga class and you earn a time credit. You can then turn around and use that time credit towards someone else’s offered talents or services. There is an incredibly helpful (and fun) cartoon on the exchange’s homepage that lays out the whole principle.

The entire idea around the Eugene based organization is to capitalize on other’s expertise, swapping time to learn new skills, much in the same way our community members at Swap.com utilize our marketplace to turn what they have into what they really want.

So save a little money, get to know your neighbors better, trade some time for time… how can you go wrong?

What do you think about the Emerald Valley Time Exchange? Would you consider swapping services with some of your fellow community members? Let us know in the comments section below.
