Swap of the Day: Schools Swap Food for Healthier Options

Swapping food for healthier optionsSwapping can be a great way to improve many aspects of your daily life. Whether it’s trading items around the house, or swapping out bad habits in your daily routine, applying the swapping philosophy can improve almost any area of your life. And it’s stories like this that we love to share as a source of inspiration for those looking to swap what they have to get what they want.

Recently, Los Angeles area public schools have taken to the swapping ideology by trading traditional lunch time staples like corn dogs, pizza and chocolate milk for healthier, low-fat options like California sushi rolls and spinach tortellini in butternut squash sauce. Swapping cafeteria items like chicken nuggets for a new variety of vegetarian and ethnic foods not only provides for a better sampling of cuisine it also teaches students about the importance of eating healthier.

The new options the schools have swapped for are designed to grab children’s attention without relying on sugary or greasy foods. It’s also a great reminder that healthy eating and dieting isn’t about less but more about swapping out bad foods for better foods.

What foods have you swapped in your diet recently? Are you eating more healthy fats like salmon and avocado or simply cutting out unhealthy habits? Let us know on our Facebook page or in the comments section below!
