The team at Swap.com has the privilege of meeting and interacting with some of the most awesome and genuine people you could ever have the pleasure of knowing, both online and off. That’s why we are shining the spotlight on some of our best and brightest community members with our Swapper of the Month feature! Without further ado, here is our Swapper of the Month for July, Alenya straight from the larger-than-life size state of Texas!
How long have you been a Swapper? How many trades have you made so far?
Lori: I joined the Swap back when it was still called “Swaptree” on February 10, 2009. So far I have completed 516 trades. My short-term goal is 1,000 swaps. When I hit that mark I think I’ll celebrate with a spending spree at my favorite half price book store! I’m always on the lookout for the next items to add to my have list.
What types of items do you trade the most on Swap.com?
L: The biggest percentage of my trades are for books by far. DVD trades make up something like 10 percent of my trades, with CDs being the type of items I rarely trade. I don’t trade video games at all on Swap at this time.
What is the most prized possession you’ve received in a swap?
L: My most prized swap is a paperback copy in acceptable condition, crazy huh? It’s not the book itself that I was so excited about, but the story. ‘The Prize‘ by Julie Garwood, who is one of my top three favorite authors, is a title that I somehow missed for years. I didn’t realize that there was a Julie Garwood story out there that I hadn’t read, until I saw it as part of my “You can get this item” for one of the books I had for trade.
I didn’t recognize the title, so I went to look for it on my bookshelf. Sure enough, didn’t have it (yet). Anyone who has ever read everything by their favorite author, and can’t wait for their next book to come out, will understand perfectly how I felt when I discovered the new title.
I’ve found so many great reads by authors I’d never read before on Swap. It’s one of my favorite things about trading — I save so much money this way and the best part is I can afford to try something I probably wouldn’t spend full price on. I’ve discovered some great new authors, a lot of “keepers”, and saved a lot of money doing it.
If you were deserted on an island, what three items would you take with you?
L: If I could only choose three items to take with me to a deserted island (really, who can choose only three?), the first would be a big strong guy (my hubby will do nicely, who’s my equivalent of the professor from Gilligan’s Island) to do all the heavy/yucky work. Things like; building our Disney-esqe tropical dream house from coconut husks and sea-shells, cleaning fish, killing bugs, etc.
The second thing I’d take would be a generator that works on monkey power (who works on banana power).
The third and most important thing I’d take is my book collection. We’re gonna need a lot of bookshelves in our Tropical Dream House.
If you could be anyone or anything for one day, who or what would you be and why?
L: If I could be anyone or anything for one day I would be the 2-legged part of a human/canine disaster rescue team. If I could do anything as a career, this is what I would choose to do. I would want to do something desperately needed that makes a difference. I have such admiration for all the brave men and women who go into disaster sites and put their own lives at risk to try to rescue others. Just finding those whose lives have been lost is also of great help to their friends and family.
