Green Ideas: Ride a Bike Where You Like in Boston

Boston Bicycle Swapping RidesharingAs Queen front-man Freddy Mercury once famously crooned, “I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride it where I like.”

In Boston you’ll soon be able to do just that. With the launch of a new bicycle sharing system, theĀ New Balance Hubway, Boston is about to get a little greener, and a little more accessible.

Here’s how it works. Step one: you sign up for a 24 hour, 3 day, or annual membership to the bicycle sharing program. Step two: you receive a Hubway key that unlocks any of the 600 bikes waiting to be taken out at anytime of day from the 61 bike stations across the city. Step three: ride your bike as much as you like! Step four: return the bike to any one of those 61 stations for the next patron to pick up and ride around the city.

The bike sharing concept has many perks, as it provide a faster alternative to walking as well as a cleaner and greener way to arrive at your destination than driving or taking to the subway. It’s also a cheaper option than paying for parking around town and is a great way to stay active!

And of course if the bikes come with a bell now would be the perfect time to start learning that ‘Bicycle Race‘ bell solo (I know I can’t be the only one with such a desire to learn that)!

“Bicycle races are coming your way, so forget all your duties, oh yeah!”

What do you think of Boston’s new bicycle sharing program? Does your city offer something similar? We’re always looking for Green Ideas to share so be sure to leave a comment below or keep the conversation going on our Facebook page.
