Swap of the Day: Athens Organization Lets Members Swap Skills

Swap skills and time We love talking about how swapping can save you money and as we all know the old saying “time is money.” When it comes to chores and projects around the house the same rules of swapping can apply. In a sense, swapping isn’t just limited to physical goods, you can also swap your time, energy and skills. That’s just what folks in the college town of Athens, GA are doing thanks to the Athens Time Bank.

The basic premise is very simple:

For every hour you spend doing something for someone else you earn a TimeDollar. You can then use your TimeDollar having someone spend an hour doing something for you.

With more than 100 members and hundreds of service hours logged the Athens Time Bank allows members to list the chores, services and time they can provide and swap with someone else. For every hour of service a member contributes they’re able to receive one TimeDollar to spend and exchange for other member’s time. It’s a great way for members to receive and perform services without money, while also providing many people access to services they aren’t normally able to perform.

What’s great about the concept of  time banking is that all time services and skills are weighted equally, meaning your time is just as valuable as your neighbors, providing a great win-win to every swap. To find a skill swapping time bank in your local area check out Timebanks.org
