Love Athleisure? Sport These 6 Brands

Gap’s parent company recently announced that they were closing over 200 Banana Republic and Gap stores to focus on Old Navy and Athleta. What does it mean when an iconic brand like Gap completely shifts focus from fashionable, trendy stores to a women’s athletic apparel store? It means athleisure is hot, and it’s here to stay.

Athleisure is a fashion movement of trendy workout clothes that people sport more for looking good in while feeling comfortable than actually working out. Since the clothes carry a certain cache, you can get away with wearing them to the grocery store, casual office, dinner with the in-laws, etc. Basically, athleisure lets you feel like you’re in pajamas but look like you’ve got it together. Thanks, athleisure.

Here are 6 athleisure brands we’re wearing right now.

1. Athleta

Athleta is definitely having a moment, if you will. Less expensive that some other brands on this list, Athleta is largely responsible for making athleisure accessible to all women. Athleta prides itself on the “Power of She,” inspiring women to be bold, strong, and risk-taking. As one of the only brands entirely dedicated to athleisure, they have clothing for every woman in every stage of life. With leggings and a tank, they’ve got you covered for work with their comfy spandex dress or your happy hour yoga class .

2. Adidas

Adidas is edgier than Athleta; they brand themselves as the “intersection of sport and street style.” We agree, and so do the many celebrities who wear their athleisure clothing, including Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Lorde, and Emma Stone. Yeah, you’re in good company in an Adidas tank and sweats.

3. Lululemon

Lululemon is part-brand, part-cult, part-motivational speaker. They are one of the ONLY athleisure brands to have a men’s collection, so I personally thank them for that. They epitomize athleisure and paved the way for brands like Athleta. It’s a yoga-clothing company at its core, but their clothing is both stylish and flexible enough to wear whether you’re shopping at the grocery store, taking a spin class, or picking the kids up from school.

4. Nike

I don’t know that Nike would consider itself athleisure as much as just athletic, but with their huge range of products, there are definitely some that fall into an athleisure category. With a slogan like “Just do it,” Nike’s swoosh will keep you striving and thriving all day long.

5. Alo

Alo Yoga is cool. Really cool. Kendall Jenner, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Hailey Baldwin have all been spotted in their Insta-famous leggings. Alo Yoga reflects Los Angeles ease and breeze, so use them to feel comfy anywhere in the country.

6. Danskin

Danskin is the oldest brand on this list by far. It was founded in the 1880s as solely a company for dancer’s clothes, and it has evolved to fit the needs of today’s women. They still have lots of clothes for dancers, but their line includes things for all active women. Whether you’re running off to cheerleading practice, dropping in to yoga, or rooting for the little ones from the sidelines, Danskin has a huge range of clothes to keep you stylish and comfy.
