Ugly Sweaters, Beautiful People: How One Woman Outfitted Her Water Aerobics Team in Holiday Cheer

You may have heard us talking a lot about Ugly Holiday Sweaters this season, whether from your local news or favorite national talk show. If you cannot already tell, we LOVE this time of year and warmly embrace the whimsical tradition of Ugly Holiday Sweaters.

Knowing this, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that this heartwarming story about how one of our customers gifted her entire water aerobics team with Ugly Holiday Sweaters, from, struck a chord with us. We hope her story also fills your heart with holiday cheer. 

Inspired by the joy of the holidays and love for her aerobics team, Deborah N. was moved to purchase more than 50 Ugly Holiday Sweaters and Vests as gifts for her whole squad.

Each person picked the one they wanted as a Christmas present from me, beamed Deborah.

She was kind enough to share a few photos with us to share with all of you.

These photos capture the joy and the feeling of ‘I feel pretty, said Deborah. I can’t remember when I’ve had as much fun as I did selecting from the 1,000 plus sweaters of every size 0-3x. Everyone was amazed and truly pleased with the sweater they picked.

Since her mother passed a few years ago, the YMCA and the water aerobics team have served as a community for Deborah.

I felt alone without structure. I joined the YMCA and instantly felt warmly welcomed. is proud to have been a part of Deborah’s holiday fun and team building experience.

My purchase from was my way of saying a big thank you to all my water aerobics class. It was a gift of love and money truly well spent. These ladies will treasure these for many years to come. Thank you for allowing my inner Santa to express itself.

As we reflect on the role of community in our lives throughout the past year, we are grateful to our squad bonded through the thrill of the hunt that comes from thrifting.
